Middle & High School Academics
6th-12th Grade
Where Academic Challenge Meets Purpose-Driven Formation
The middle and high school years are transformative. Students are asking bigger questions, discovering their strengths, and figuring out who they want to become. At Mt. Salus, we meet them in that season with rigorous academics, intentional discipleship, and opportunities to lead and serve, so they graduate not just prepared for college, but equipped for life where God leads them.
Your student will be challenged intellectually, known personally, and mentored spiritually by teachers who care deeply about their growth in every area.
College-Prep Curriculum Taught Through a Biblical Lens
We use a rigorous curriculum from BJU Press (English, Science, and History) and Saxon Math—programs designed to develop critical thinking and prepare students for college-level work.
Every subject is taught through a biblical worldview, helping students understand how faith and knowledge work together.
Small Classes, Deep Relationships
With an average class ratio of 9:1, your student won't be a number.
Teachers know each student personally—their strengths, struggles, and goals—and provide the individualized attention needed to help them excel academically and grow in confidence.
Enrichment That Prepares for the Future
Beyond core academics, students participate in enrichment classes, including:
College & Career Readiness (including ACT Prep)
Speech
Introduction to Worldview
Art, PE, Spanish, and Computer Technology
These courses equip students with practical skills and a biblical framework for engaging the world beyond graduation.
Weekly Family Groups
All 7th–12th-grade students meet weekly in gender-specific small groups led by faculty and staff.
These "family groups" create space for deeper relationships, honest conversations, and spiritual mentorship in a safe, supportive environment.
Beyond the Classroom
Dual Enrollment Opportunities
High-achieving students have the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school through our dual enrollment partnership with Hinds Community College.
This allows students to get a head start on college and experience college-level coursework in a supportive environment. We work with families to identify the best options based on each student's goals.
Leadership & Service Organizations
Students grow as servant leaders through our Student Ambassador Leadership Institute (7th–12th), National Honor Society (10th–12th), and regular service projects.
These experiences develop character, build confidence, and give students hands-on opportunities to use their gifts to serve Christ and others.
Athletics & Extracurriculars
Mt. Salus offers competitive athletics and extracurricular activities that teach teamwork, perseverance, and character.
Athletics include: Cross-country, Track, Archery, Soccer, Basketball
Clubs & Activities include: Chess Club, Service Projects, and Field Trips

-
No. As an independent Christian school, we are not required to participate in state testing. However, we use the IOWA Assessments (K–9th grade) and Weekday ACT (10th–12th grade) to monitor student growth and ensure academic progress.
Standardized tests are required to maintain our accreditation status.
-
We use BJU Press for English Language Arts, Science, History, and Bible, and Saxon Math for mathematics.
Both are proven, rigorous programs that build strong academic foundations.
We also use physical textbooks rather than digital-only materials to encourage focus and deeper learning.
-
Our middle and high school students have access to iPads for specific projects and learning activities.
Each student gets a school email address and access to Google Classroom.
We believe in balanced technology use, giving students access to helpful tools without letting screens become a distraction or replace hands-on learning. Since technology is now so accessible in everyday life, our focus is on teaching students when and how to use it purposefully, rather than simply maximizing screen time.
You'll find we prioritize physical textbooks, collaborative work, and direct instruction while incorporating technology where it genuinely enhances learning.
-
Our college-prep curriculum, small class sizes, and College & Career Readiness course (including ACT prep) ensure students are academically prepared. Beyond academics, we emphasize character formation, critical thinking, and biblical worldview training—equipping students not just to succeed in college, but to thrive as confident, purpose-driven leaders wherever God calls them.
